On Landscape: Our Collective Optical Goal Romantic ideology is problematic in contemporary life. The attempts to assassinate these tendencies within myself are countered by my continuation to resuscitate them. My love of landscape is antiquated, but not dead. Producing a tension that is echoed in our interactions within a virtual and physical world. Utopia, the desire towards a horizon that is given and digested, is embedded in multiple visual realities that are always aiming at perfection in landscape. However, this perfectionary beauty becomes Aestheticist beauty-- a complete upheaval of the landscape that is rendered dialectical and static. I want to document these static moments of collapse. I want to convince you that utopia can be visualized as a landscape, but a landscape that is unable to escape the bounds of our virtual industrialization. My work emphasizes landscape; the horizon as optical goal, and the transformation these Romantic ideologies have undergone in order to suit the pathologies present in our culture.
